Abstract

AbstractThe present work describes design and synthesis of dicyanovinylpyrene as a molecular probe 1. The photophysical studies of probe 1 shows intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) behavior. Probe 1 upon interaction with different amino acids in partial aqueous medium shows high selectivity for cysteine (Cys) through a chemical reaction based chemodosimeter approach. The observed change in the photophysical behavior and fluorescence “turn–on” response upon interaction with Cys is attributed to the formation of Michael type adduct in the medium. The mode of interaction between probe 1 and Cys has been confirmed by the 1HNMR, 13CNMR, HRMS spectroscopic data and significant change in the morphological feature.
