Abstract

Bennett was one of the country’s best known astronomy educators and authors. For many years he led the outreach activities of the California Academy of Sciences and the Astronomical Society of the Pacific.

Introduction

The AAS and astronomy education lost a leader and friend with the passing of Michael Alan Bennett. A lecturer at Morrison Planetarium and he hired Mike as a part time planetarium usher. Mike often said that “I achieved my lifetime ambition — even if it was just a little early to peak professionally.” Bernhard mentored Mike who worked his way up, becoming a research assistant, guest lecturer, assistant manager, and interim Planetarium Supervisor at Morrison Planetarium while going through college and grad school into the 1970’s.
