Abstract

Micellar mediated organic reactions are of immense importance for the conversion of ‘on water’ reaction into ‘in water’ type. To avoid the use of toxic, volatile organic solvents as reaction media, these micellar media are the true alternatives. Additionally micelles can catalyse a chemical reaction. Different types of organic reactions such as oxidation, C–C coupling, C-heteroatom coupling, regioselective and enantioselective reactions are carried out successfully in micellar system for many years. A brief account of such reactions has been presented in this article along with some introductory to kinetic models on micellar catalysis. A newer edition of micelle known as designer micelle has also been discussed briefly.
