Abstract

Anchorage plays an important role in orthodontic treatment. Extraoral traction can be an effective reinforcement, but demands exceptional patient cooperation.Prosthetic osseointegrated implants have been suggested and used to reinforce anchorage. However, clinicians have hesitated to use prosthetic implants as orthodontic anchorage because of limited implantation space, high cost, and long waiting period for osseointegration.M.I.A. (Micro Implant Anchorage) were introduced as orthodontic anchorage due to their many advantages such as ease of insertion and removal, low cost, immediate loading, and their ability to be placed any area of the alveolar bone.In this study, patients were treated with using MIA. The M.I.A. provides anchorage for retraction of the upper anterior teeth. This approach to the treatment has the following characteristics:1. Independent of patient cooperation.2. Distal movement of upper molars were possible. These results indicate that M.I.A. might be a very good option.
