Abstract
It was defined that as a result of saturation or migration of hydrocarbons, thin disperse magnetite, which can be revealed via thermal-magnetic research methods, has been formed. Moreover, the most sensitive parameters are Irs/Irso and Irt/In associated with the temperature phase transformations of iron-containing compounds. The values of Irs/Irso and Irt/In reach the dozens and hundred value units for the rocks saturated with oil, and the order of units for the rocks not underwent the contact with hydrocarbons. Therefore, studying the values of Irs/Irso and Irt/In, one can judge on the presence of iron compounds in the reservoirs and correspondingly, suppose whether this horizon served earlier as a reservoir, or medium for hydrocarbon migration. Thermal-magnetic research surveys carried out by us justified that in the section of Productive Series in Azerbaijan the major magnetic minerals responsible for the primary magnetism of terrigene reservoirs of Upper Pliocene is the magnetite with Tс = 550-575 oС and the hydrogethite with Tс = 100–120 oС. At the same time, abnormally high values of Irs/Irso and Irt/In and Irs/Irso и Irt/In parameters are observed as well. These data may justify that the age of Upper Pliocene in Productive Series of Azerbaijan is the most probable time for either formation of oil and gas deposits or for the migration of main hydrocarbon mass towards favorable structures (traps).
