Abstract

Observing the need and opportunity for corrections officers to effectively respond to at‐risk inmates experiencing a mental health crisis, Rutgers Health researchers, with the assistance of the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, conducted a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) pilot program in a prison setting. The evidence‐based intervention was aimed at corrections officers (COs), who are considered to be the first line of response in a correctional setting.
