Abstract
A practical method for α-amination of α-alkyl-β-ketoesters using hydroxamic acids is described. In this protocol, an oxidative <i>N</i>-acylnitroso aldol reaction is catalyzed by magnesium chloride in the presence of the oxidant <i>tert</i>-butyl hydroperoxide.
