Abstract

The coastal zone of Mexico extends for 10,000 km along the Pacific Ocean, Gulf of California, Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean Sea (Fig. 1). The regional geology and high-relief physiography are largely the result of plate tectonics (Lankford 1977). Mexico’s coastal margin has been divided by Carranza-Edwards et al. (1975) into 9 morpho-tectonic units (Fig. 1). These units are defined by a combination of tectonic, morphologic, and genetic factors.KeywordsContinental ShelfArtificial StructureYucatan PeninsulaCoastal SectorBaja California PeninsulaThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
