Abstract

In this study, the modeling of viscoelastic membranes in presence of gravity waves is done. For a diverse selection of waves and topological parameters, the effect of membrane viscoelasticity on gravity wave scattering and dissipation is investigated. It is noticed that the viscoelasticity of the membranes drastically reduces the scattering coefficients as well as the deflection of the membranes due to the energy dissipation. Further, the complex parameter associated with the viscoelasticity of the membrane alters the phase of the scattered waves. The findings show that the viscoelastic effects of the membranes improve the membrane's service life and can also be used to develop a tranquility zone on the lee side of viscoelastic membrane barriers.
