Abstract

In describing the linguistic picture of metrosexualism, I refer to current issues associated with masculine corporeality, its representation constructed outside of the traditional, heteronormative matrix. I bring attention to the fact that the lexeme also became the basis to create new ways of expressing masculinity, and, secondarily, non-standard sexuality. I excerpt them from Internet sources, which are reactive towards the newest phenomena – globalisation, Americanisation, aestheticism, consumerism. They often have original definitions that are not included in official language registers, but are sufficiently popularised in the native cultural entourage, in which they are rooted and in which they became established, so that they become incorporated in virtual dictionaries. Therefore, performed reconstruction of the notion of metrosexuality and its evolution, has a linguistic and cultural character.
