Abstract
ABSTRACT Different urban structures can present different problems. Therefore, it is important to organize the spatial structure of the city to ensure the movement and welfare of city residents. Metropolitan Jakarta and Surabaya are the two largest metropolitan areas in Indonesia and play a very important role as centres of national social and economic activities. This study aims to identify urban spatial structures based on commuter movement patterns in both metropolitan areas. This is done by calculating the spatial interaction and visualization of the Desire Line Map. The results of the analysis show that Jakarta and Surabaya Metropolitan Areas still tend to be monocentric because the attraction of their movements is still dominated by their respective cores.
