Abstract

Self-report and test performance measures demonstrated the successful treatment of a college student's test anxiety in a foreign language laboratory testing situation. The treatment procedure was based upon metronome-conditioned relaxation in which the beats of a metronome were paired with hypnotic-relaxation instructions. The student then used the beating metronome to counteract testelicited anxiety. The metronome was successfully faded out, demonstrating lack of long-term dependence on the external device.
