Abstract

Abstract : In February 1993 the Defense Information Systems Agency/Center for Information Management (DISA/CIM) sponsored a Software Reuse Metrics Workshop. The primary goal of these meetings was to develop a set of questions that would indicate what measurements should be collected in support of the DISA/CIM software Reuse Program. These proceedings indicate that DISA/CIM's Software Reuse Metrics Plan will be used as a foundation for developing a DoD Software Reuse Metrics Plan. The DISA/CIM plan serves as a major input into the DoD-wide plan, and DISA/CIM will be conducting pilot prototypes of their recommendations. The CARDS (Central Archive for Reusable Defense Software) metrics efforts should also provide valuable information that can be feed into the DoD-wide Software Reuse Metrics Plan. As stated in the DoD Software Vision and Strategy Document, the DoD must establish a baseline upon which to gauge success and measure improvement that serve as a basis for comparison among alternative approaches. Therefore, the CARDS metrics effort is two-fold: (1) use metrics within the CARDS Program to measure and improve processes, products, and services and (2) monitor and provide possible contributions to the DoD Software Reuse Metrics Plan.
