Abstract

Metipranolol significantly decreased32P incorporation into membrane phosphatidylcholine but increased the radioactivity in phosphatidylinositol of nonstimulated and 48/80-stimulated rat mast cells. In stimulated cells metipranolol significantly decreased3H-arachidonic acid liberation from total membrane phospholipids as well as thromboxane B2 formation. The effect of metipranolol on stimulated rat mast cells is most probably a result of its direct effect on membrane phospholipid and arachidonic acid turnover.
