Abstract
The effects of Promintic, an injection formula of methyridine, on swine nematodes were evaluated in field trials involving 106 swine. In the case of Trichuris suis, excellent results were obtained with a dose of 100 mg/kg, which is lower than the effective dose reported in the preceding paper. In addition, nearly comparable efficacy was confirmed with so low a dose of 50 mg/kg. In the case of Strongyloides ransomi, the effective dose level of 150mg/kg, as reported in the preceding paper, was able to be substantiated. As shown in the preceding paper, however, the efficacy against Ascaris suum was low, and little efficacy was proved against Oesophagostomum spp. A markedly reduced egg count of Metastrongylus apri was observed with a dose of 250mg/kg or higher, as shown in natural cases in the preceding paper. When a dose of 300 mg/kg or lower, as divided into two equal aliquots, was injected subcutaneously at the areas posterior to both ears, the resulting systemic and local reactions were mild in general.
