Methylprednisolone attenuates the interleukin-6 response, but exacerbates porcine pulmonary dysfunction induced by infrarenal aortic ischaemia-reperfusion

Abstract

The authors have demonstrated that MP significantly attenuates the pro-inflammatory response in this model. However, MP has a detrimental effect on pulmonary function as measured by a significant decrease in arterial oxygen tension. Although MP has been shown to be renal protective in the perioperative setting, its negative impact on intraoperative pulmonary function requires further elucidation.
