Abstract

BENZYLAMINOPURINE releases axillary buds of tobacco from dormancy. During the early stages of bud stimulation [Methyl- 14C] incorporation from methionine into a labile fraction eluted from Methylated Albumen-Kielselgűhr columns is reduced in 6-benzylaminopurine-treated buds. The percent of isotope incorporation into lipids and s-RNA is higher 18 hours after 6-benzylaminopurine treatment than in the controls. These data demonstrate a shift in metabolism of [Methyl- 14C]- methionine during the release of buds from dormancy.
