Methyl Migration and Transannular 1,5‐Hydride Shift on Oxidative Cleavage of CPd Bonds with CuCl2

Abstract

The high regio- and stereoselectivity of the reaction 1 → 2 points to a mechanism involving a transannular 1,5 hydrogen migration; the CH activation probably takes place via a cyclic, seven-membered transition state. This was the result of a detailed mechanistic study of the PdCu catalyzed functionalization of CH groups, a reaction that may eventually be extended to steroids.
