Abstract

Education plays a very significant role in providing complete Islamic finance ecosystem. The rapid evolution and growth of the Islamic finance industry require the skilled Islamic finance professionals and practitioners to meet the industry needs. As such, it is increasingly vital to narrow the wide gap in talent supply through modernization of Islamic finance education system. Responding to this, education providers such as universities and colleges throughout the world, have developed curriculum and offered courses and Programs on Islamic finance. Consequently, some universities in the world pioneered the Islamic finance education. One of them is the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM). Located in Malaysia, this university is the pioneer of the Islamic finance education by offering a number Islamic Finance Programs and courses. Founded since 1983, IIUM had already introduced Islamic Finance courses as early as 1990s. The Islamic finance courses are being taught across different faculties especially Ahmad Ibrahim Kuliyyah of Law (AIKOL), Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences (IRKHS), Kulliyyah of Economics & Management Sciences (KENMS) and the IIUM Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance (IIiBF). Various interesting methodologies of teaching, learning and research are adopted to ensure effective transfer of knowledge to the graduates. This paper will explore the pedagogies or methodologies that being used in the teaching, learning and research of the Islamic finance courses across the faculties in IIUM.
