Abstract

1. With two static frequency converters at the PSS additional redundancy of starters is not required. 2. Forced technical solutions providing the possibility of direct asynchronous connection to the total line voltage reduce the operating reliability of the generator-motor and lead to an increase of its cost. 3. The use of the method of direct starting in the pump regime in an emergency situation is impermissible, since such an emergency-control measure not only does not provide a “quick” balance of capacities at the node but can be the cause of development of an emergency owing to a shortage of reactive power. 4. When planning a PSS preference, as a rule, should be given to static frequency converters, since they not only provide a smooth start of the unit with an adjustable rate but also the possibility of returning the braking energy to the line.
