Abstract

This chapter explains and elaborates on the term “reliability” and “validity.” The term reliability is the synonym for consistency. In the empirical research, the data once collected with the help of a tool or instrument has to be checked for its consistency. The reliability of the tool depicts the tools if used for any research further in the future will publish consistent results. In SPSS, various reliability methods are present and all work is considered when the threshold value is above .7. The greater degree of consistency and stability shows greater reliability. “Validity” explains the accuracy of the instrument, i.e., it must measure what it is claiming to measure. Reliability and validity coefficients are in correlation coefficient form. Moreover, the lucidity behind testing reliability and validity is to maintain equilibrium between qualitative concepts and quantitative results.
