Abstract
Power system topology evaluation starts from switch states and a comprehensive description of breakers, isolators, busbars, transformers, lines, etc., and their potential connections. For the latter task a variety of methods and application structures were developed especially in the context of the description of busbar-type substations. The paper establishes a frame of basic topology description methods and discusses applied and proposed methods in relation to that frame.
