Abstract

The conception of rehabilitation of the mentally ill, which has been consistently developed in recent years in our country by Professor M.M. Kabanov [5], doubtless demands a revision of the principal theoreticalmethodological paradigms of medicine, from nosocentral to anthropocentral and sociocentral. The rehabilitation approach presupposes a revision of the ratio between the categories disease and health. Today, early in the new century, there are few doubts concerning the insufficiency of narrow biomedical ideas of the essence of psychopathological phenomena that do not give adequate consideration to the influence of cultural, social, and psychological factors on the origins, course, and outcome of mental disorders. The biopsy chosocial model of disease and of the concept of positive health [3, 4, 6, 7, 15] creates an adequate methodological basis for integrating psychosocial factors into comprehension of the disease and health ratio.
