Abstract

The paper presents two procedures developed to analyse the electromagnetic behaviour of the joints between superconducting cables. These procedures have been applied to the US preprototype joint between the ITER central solenoid conductors. In these analyses the joint is represented by equivalent electrical networks which are studied in an analytical or a numerical way. By means of these models it is possible to have an idea of the current distribution in the joint and to calculate the magnetic field in the surrounding space. The computed and the measured fields have been compared, showing a good accuracy of the model reconstruction.
