Abstract

Varieties of mode switches exist in aero engine control. The transition characteristics of mode switches has great impacts on the control performance and even the safety of aero engine. To meet the requirements of smooth transition, different smooth transition methods are introduced, analyzed and simulated. A classification method is proposed based on the relationship between the change step of actual output and the target output. The smooth transition methods are classified into three categories, fixed-step methods, weighted methods and fade methods. The principle and specialty of each method are formulated. The mode switches in aero engine control are refined into four typical scenarios. Using these four typical scenarios, three representative smooth methods are simulated and compared. The strength and weakness of each method are shown clearly. The results can be used as guidance to design appropriate mode switch method for the aero engine control.
