Abstract

Along with the population aging, osteoporosis has been a focused issue of concern of public health around the world.Up to date, the best method for osteoporosis diagnosis is the quantitative measurement of bone mineral density (BMD),which has been paid much attention to in clinic. In this paper, manifold methods applied in clinic for quantitative BMD measurement, including X-ray radiography, density measurement of Xphotograph, single photon absorptiometry or single-energy X-ray absorptiometry, dual photon absorptiometry or dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, quantitative computed tomography or quantitative ultrasound or quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI),are reviewed by principles and compared by their features. Key words: Osteoporosis; Bone mass; Bone density; Bone mineral density; Bone quality; Quantitative measurement
