Abstract
The development and use of practical methods for analyzing the performance of gapless metal oxide surge arresters under various surge and power frequency overvoltage conditions is described. Using these methods, the thermal requirements of ANSI and IEC standards are examined in detail. The results, showing large differences between the two standards, indicate the need for further harmonization of standards. Recommendations are made to bring ANSI and IEC standards to a closer agreement. >
