Methods for Analysis of One-Step Breast Biopsy Programs

Abstract

: Many breast care centers have introduced image-guided breast biopsy programs. These newer one-step biopsy programs need to be evaluated and compared to localization and open surgical biopsy to ensure maintream acceptance. The authors describe a method that compares the histology from an image-guided breast biopsy with the histology from an open surgical biopsy using a traditional 4 × 4 table. The 16 conventional cells identified in the 4 × 4 table are simplified into three clinically relevant categories. In addition, eight numerically defined biopsy program performance measurements are presented.
