Methodology of the guideline update on bipolar disorders and perspective on future updates

Abstract

Since 2012 aGerman guideline for the diagnosis and therapy of bipolar disorders has been available at the S3 level defined by the Association of the Scientific Medical Societies in Germany. This has now been updated in a revision process and since May 2019 available under the AWMF number 038-019. In order to maintain the high quality of the guidelines it was necessary to review and evaluate studies published since the first release, which is reflected in the number of 20 new and 29 amended recommendations and statements. This article discusses the recently finalized revision process and provides aperspective on future updates.
