Abstract

The design of an off-street parking facility, a corner lot surrounded by two streets intersecting at the corner, is described. The assumptions made in the study are described, and a step by step account is given of the derivation of the theoretical model. It was found that several patterns could be designed that gives the same maximum capacity. The best pattern is then selected through Ease, a measure of comfort to park in the lot and thus a factor of safety. The general features of the model used are several. The practical layout of the initial design is based on three priciples, the most important being that equations are general enough to handle any car size, any combination car sizes, and different angles in different regions. At present the model can be used for rectangular shapes of arbitrary lengths but a fixed width.
