Abstract

Summary Techniques are described to prepare plant tissues infected with biotrophic fungal pathogens. The procedures are suited for scanning electron microscopy of infection structures of plant pathogens inside of the plant cells and the intercellular space of the leaves. The results demonstrated with the host/parasite-combination barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) and yellow rust (Puccinia striiformis West.) are also applicable to other biotrophic fungal plant pathogens.
