Abstract

It is important to rapidly obtain traffic information over a large area for various applications. Sensors and cameras installed on the ground are frequently used to collect traffic information. However, these devices may be broken when a large-scale disaster occurs, making it difficult to collect traffic information by conventional ground-based observation. Aerial images are useful for this purpose. In this study, we propose a method of registering a time sequence of aerial images, from which traffic information over a large area can be obtained collectively, even after a disaster, and a digital map, which is used to analyze the images by a simple method. In the processing, we also use a satellite image with the aim of improving the registration accuracy. The achievements of this study will enable the establishment of a traffic information collection system that can work stably in various situations.
