Abstract

In order to observe directly ionic crystals under electronmicroscope, several attempts were made to form thin and wide ionic crystals from KCI aqueous solution. As the result, thin single crystals one to several microns wide and several hundred Ångströms thick were obtained on the collodion membrane by rapid vacuum-drying. Also, by vacuum freeze-drying of the solution on a collodion-covered mesh which was located on a thermal insulator, thin needle-like crystals and flaky crystals with internal stress were obtained, which were 1–10 μ wide and several hundred Ångströms thick.
