Abstract

A method for improving the design of drainage layer in pavement was presented. Based on the percolation theory, the mathematical physics model for calculating the water exchanges were established, involving drainage layer with a constant cross-width thickness and drainage layer with a varying cross-width thickness. Then, the analytical solutions of flux distribution in drainage layer with a constant cross-width thickness and drainage layer with a varying cross-width thickness were obtained to verify the improvement of discharge capacity of proposed drainage layer. Then, the models were calculated and analyzed. The analysis results showed that the drainage layer with a varying cross-width thickness can improve the water drainage capacity well. Additionally, through the parameter analysis, it demonstrated that the parameters of n and H’ play a significant role in improving the discharge capacity of drainage layer.
