Abstract

In order to quickly suppress voltage fluctuations at the point of common coupling (PCC) caused by the doubly fed induction generator, a closed‐loop control method of the static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) is proposed, through which proportional integral (PI) parameters of the current inner loop can be adjusted online. The core aim is to derive quantitative relationships between the PI parameters and the output current of the STATCOM based on combining mathematical mechanization theory (MMT) with digital signal processing. Due to the reduction and quasidivision of the MMT, this original control method can be used to adjust the PI parameters of the STATCOM online according to the actual sampling voltage and sampling current data. The simulation and experimental results show that this control method can make a quick PCC voltage recovery within 10 ms, which satisfies the Chinese standard GB/T‐14549‐93. It can provide a solution for large‐scale wind power curtailment that should be solved imperatively. © 2019 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
