Abstract

The fracture of elastic materials with a cylindrical cavity and a coaxial cylindrical crack near the surface during uniform compression of the medium along its axis is studied using a nonclassical criterion approach associated with a mechanism for local loss of stability near the defect. A solution technique is proposed which makes it possible to reduce the three-dimensional axially symmetric linearized problem to a system of linear homogeneous equations to be solved numerically.
