Abstract
This paper presents the development of a new mix design method for fly ash geopolymer mortars activated using combined sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide solutions. For a specified value of compressive strength, specified value of workability, and known chemical properties of the sodium silicate solution to be used in a mixture, the proposed method generates mixture design parameters consisting of activator to fly ash ratio, sodium silicate to sodium hydroxide ratio, and molarity of sodium hydroxide. It was found that the actual compressive strengths and actual workability values obtained from tests were satisfactorily comparable to the designed values. The proposed method concept can be applied to generate relevant mix design charts for various types of geopolymer binders.
