Abstract

The paper presents a new method for transient analysis of lossy transmission lines that have nonlinear circuits as termination. To achieve this purpose, modal decomposition in the frequency domain was used as well as matching of rational function approximations to the frequency dependent eigenvalues, eigenvectors and admittance matrices. Rational function approximation eliminates the need to use the fast Fourier transform (FFT) or numerical inversion of the Laplace transform (NILT) and, secondly, this type of approximation allows an efficient evaluation of the convolution integral in the time domain. A practical example is also presented to demonstrate the accuracy of the simulation method.
