Abstract
海洋研究開発機構の無人探査機ハイパードルフィンの超高感度カメラ，スーパー・ハープで撮影した，海底露出する塊状のメタンハイドレート．マニュピレーターの手の幅は約18cm．水深約900m，海鷹海脚北部の崩壊地帯．後ろの壁の白い塊もメタンハイドレート．海水はメタンに未飽和であるため，海底に露出したメタンハイドレートは短時間のうちに溶解し，スムースな外形を呈すると予想されるがここでは鋭い破断面で覆われる．海底直下にあった塊状のメタンハイドレートが，自らの浮力と下部からのガス圧により物理的に破壊され浮上し，その断片が崩壊地形の壁に露出したものと考えられる．（松本 良；写真提供：海洋研究開発機構（なつしまNT07-20））
