Abstract

The results are described of a case study of a gas extraction and utilization system located on a sanitary landfill site. The system includes the following: a 0.9-m-diameter gas extraction well, gas monitoring probes installed radially from the well, a continuously operating gas pump, waste gas outlet, and an onsite greenhouse heated by a modified forced air gas furnace. The recovery of landfill gas is both feasible and economical, even in an unprocessed state. The system operating characteristics for a 5-month period in the winter of 1979 are provided.
