Abstract

An evaluation of a designed wire gauze reactor was performed. The reactor was based on the Ce3O4 catalyst which was doped with CeO2 and PdO to increase the catalytic combustion of CH4. The cerium oxide catalyst was obtained by an impregnation method. Analysis of the prepared catalysts was performed using XRF quantitative method. The determination of the reaction kinetics was obtained by CSTR catalytic combustion experiments. The performance of wire gauze structured reactors with various metal oxide catalysts with regard to the catalytic combustion of methane originated from biogas fuelled power turbines was assessed through mathematical modelling. A one-dimensional plug-flow model of structured catalytic reactor was applied. The modelling results have proven that the wire gauzes can be regarded as a serious alternative to the ceramic monoliths.
