Abstract
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Crystal methamphetamine is a synthetic psycho-stimulant drug that speeds up the inner workings of the brain and affects the central nervous system, with long-lasting effects on the body. In Sudan, it is called “Ice.” The purpose of this study is to evaluate the methamphetamine addiction-related knowledge, attitudes, and practices of the people living in 24 Al-Qurashi, Sudan. This was Sudan’s first study of its sort, aimed at assessing the general public’s knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors and prevalence of methamphetamine addiction. Methods A 34-question structured questionnaire covering sociodemographic information, knowledge, attitudes, practices, and the prevalence of methamphetamine addiction was used in the study. Likert scale, multiple-choice, and true/false questions were all included in this bilingual (English and Arabic) questionnaire. Results and Conclusion A total of 113 people participated in the study. The residents of 24-AlQurashi showed poor knowledge regarding methamphetamine addiction, especially during pregnancy. Attitudes and practices were slightly better, with a mean percentage of 52% and 72%, respectively. The prevalence study revealed that there were no methamphetamine addicts in the area.
