Metformin use and the risk of total knee replacement among diabetic patients in primary care

Abstract

Purpose: Metformin, apart from its glucose lowering and weight reduction effects, has recently been shown to modulate meta-inflammation, an important pathogenesis in knee osteoarthritis (OA). We aim to study the association between regular metformin use and total knee replacement (TKR) in primary care patients with diabetes.
