Abstract

A 22 year old female with stage III small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the lung presented two years later with a large abdomino-pelvic mass. Core biopsy showed a metastatic high-grade neuroendocrine carcinoma. She responded poorly to chemotherapy. An exploratory laparotomy revealed bilateral large ovarian masses. Total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy was performed. Histopathology showed a metastatic high grade neuroendocrine carcinoma of both ovaries, consistent with metastasis from small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the lung. Post adjuvant chemotherapy she remained controlled over four years. We present a rare case of small cell neuroendocrine tumor of the lung with metastasis to the ovary.
