Abstract

Metastatic tumors of the jaw are infrequent, with less than 1% of all malignant tumors diagnosed in the oral cavity, most often affecting the posterior region of the mandible and may appear clinically as swelling, associated with episodes of pain, paresthesia and tooth mobility. This study aims to report two cases of metastasis from two distinct primary tumors. Case 1: A 60-year-old woman, previously diagnosed with thyroid carcinoma, with the chief complaint of a gingival lump, panoramic radiograph showed a radiolucent image in the posterior region of the mandible, diagnosed as metastasis, the patient died 14 months after the diagnosis. Case 2: A 41-year-old male with a previous gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) referred pain and paresthesia in the chin. Upon clinical examination, the patient presented mandible swelling. Panoramic radiograph showed an extensive image of mixed aspects that was later diagnosed as metastasis. Patient is currently undergoing exclusive palliative care.
