Abstract

Magnetization measurements of hexagonal La 2Ni 7 were performed in magnetic fields of up to 15 T . In 54 K<T<66 K , a field-induced metamagnetic transition was found to occur from an antiferromagnetic (AF) state to a ferromagnetic (F) state. At T<54 K , successive metamagnetic transitions occur from an antiferromagnetic state via an intermediate state to a ferromagnetic state. The magnetization processes were successfully analyzed by using Landau-type free energy assuming a F state and two types of AF state.
