Abstract

Landfill liner acts as a prevention for the migration of contaminants in the form of leachate into groundwater. Textile industry waste dewatered sludge was chosen as an alternative material for the landfill liner composition. In order to increase the quality of the liner, clay material in the form of bentonite was added to reduce the permeability of the sludge, lime to reduce the potential for damage due to leachate immersion, and rice husk ash to reduce the concentration of pollutants in leachate. Although the analysis of the leachate samples from the Jatibarang landfill is below the quality standard, precautions need to be taken to anticipate changes in the intensity of heavy metals in leachate. Therefore, the liner resistance test was carried out against the parameters of iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), and manganese (Mn) using the falling head method, and the heavy metal concentration test using AAS. Artificial leachate is used to replace the original leachate. The study results showed that the composition of 39% dewatered sludge + 60% bentonite + 1% lime was able to reduce the efficiency of Fe, Zn, and Mn from the inlet to the outlet by 100%, 71%, and 100%, respectively.
