Abstract

Book Review| December 01 2004 Metallusion: The Used, the Renewed, and the Novel Garrett Stewart is James O. Freedman Professor of Letters at the University of Iowa. He is author of several books on fiction, poetics, and film, including Dear Reader: The Conscripted Audience in Nineteenth-Century British Fiction (1996) and Between Film and Screen: Modernism's Photo Synthesis (1999), and of a forthcoming book,The Look of Reading, 1514-1990, about the evolution of the painted scene of reading.
