Abstract

According to experimental data, fracture in major pipelines that is regarded as brittle is often mixed on a microscopic scale. The brittle component in operational fractures may be attributed to the heightened cold brittleness of the metal, which is a risk factor in pipeline operation. The cold brittleness must also be taken into account when using small-grain ferritic-bainitic steel in new pipelines.
