Abstract

This book is a compilation of available information pertinent to Bolivian mineral deposits; published in 2009, it is the English edition of a volume first published, in 2007, in Spanish. Bolivia has a history of significant mining that dates back hundreds of years, a testament to the global importance of these deposits. The country hosts a broad diversity of deposit types and has considerable, although not well understood, potential for undiscovered deposits. Until publication of this volume, however, no single, readily accessible publication synthesized the available information on all known deposits. With publication of this book, Osvaldo R. Arce Burgoa has compiled and synthesized a noteworthy body of information relevant to Bolivian metallic mineral deposits. Although similar collections of data and interpretations have been assembled, this is the first new (and the only English-language) compilation in several decades. It contains abundant new and updated information appropriately placed in a modern mineral deposit-ore genesis conceptual framework. Metallic mineral deposits have always been a significant component of the Bolivian economy and are likely to remain so for years to come. Documentation of the country’s metallic mineral deposits, as achieved in this volume, is essential to defining exploration frontiers and opportunities for new discoveries.
